Opening words....

I set this blog up, to record my journey to my first triathlon, the "Superhero triathlon"...I'm a 46 year old taking on her first triathlon, a 46 year old with a diagnosis of severe asthma, arthritis and neuropathy. A 46 year old who walks with the aid of a stick, carries a nebuliser and other accurements relating to my health conditions.

The Superhero triathlon, has a core tennent at its heart, to enter you must be disabled. Disability is a word I have come to dislike, along with the term suffering, it denotes something negative, identifies that"something is wrong with you" when in reality i have learnt to live with the challenges presented, by my dodgy lungs, awkward hip and stiff, painful joints.

Unfortunately, the event I entered, has been postponed to August 2022, on account of the Covid pandemic. Social distancing can not be guaranteed and with a group of athletes who are likely to be more vulnerable to Covid, the risk simply can not be taken.

Superhero Tri 2021 was scheduled for today.  RIght now, I should be in my hotel, proudly wearing my medal and drinking champagne.

But I'm not, instead I'm planning lots of events and looking forward to taking part in 2022.
